A touchtone phone and a valid credit card may be all that a gay or bisexual man will need to gain access to a variety of special services designed just for him beginning September 30. A new 24-hour gay telephone line, 1800-888-WILD (9453) will open for business that day and will combine the most popular services currently available by dialing various different gay-oriented "976" numbers that only a minority of residents have been able to gain access to because of telephone

company regulations. Unlike "976" numbers, the "WILD" line will not be limited to particular area codes or neighborhoods.

In fact, the new service will differ from "976" lines in another way that may prove to be attractive to budgetconscious callers. Whereas, "976" calls are billed to the caller's phone bill and charges are due almost immediately, those who use toll-free 1-800-888WILD services will see their calls ($.99 per minute) reflected on VISA or MasterCard statements. Charges will be discreetly transmitted in the name of "System 800 International." Unlike phone bills, VISA and MasterCard statements need not be paid in full each month; only a minimum monthly is payment expected. Those who pay on time generally can obtain higher credit limits, or extra credit cards from a different bank. 1-800-888-WILD will offer local services to the following regions: Cleveland-Akron, Columbus,, Cincinnati-Dayton, and Pittsburgh, in addition to certain other midwestern and southern areas.

Using a touchtone phone, a caller will need to "press in" his valid VISA or MasterCard number, and then his After a databank expiration date. approves his card, he is offered his choice of city, which is also pressed with a touchtone phone. Then, he is offered a choice of services, which include talking on the live local 8-man party line in the region of his choice in a group conversation, private one-onone live conversation where he may "skip" from caller to caller with the press of a button if he wishes (again, within the city he originally chose), listening to pre-recorded "talking personal ads" left by other callers from that city, recording his own ad for other callers choosing that region to hear, or a pre-arranged liaison in what is being called the "backroom." This feature is designed for two men who "meet" on a group conversation party line who want to speak privately without other callers listening to them.

Any resident of Ohio, West Virginia, Western and Central Pennsylvania, Northern Kentucky, and Eastern Indiana can call 1-800-888-WILD.
